The Choices We Made
In the final weeks of World War II, U.S. Army Lieutenant Luke Adler no longer knows what separates justice from vengeance. Months of brutal combat across Europe have left him shaken, and atrocities he cannot forget have left him implicated in an act that threatens both his career and his conscience. Rather than face a court-martial, he is quietly transferred to a perilous mission sanctioned by General George Patton himself.
His orders are unlike anything he expected.
Near the Czechoslovakian border, inside collapsing Nazi-held territory, lies a remote farm holding hundreds of priceless Lipizzaner horses and a group of Allied prisoners of war. As Soviet forces close in and fanatical SS units hunt anyone suspected of surrender or betrayal, a small band of exhausted American soldiers forms an uneasy alliance with the German officers determined to save the horses, the prisoners, and perhaps a fragment of their own humanity.
Outnumbered and trapped behind enemy lines, Adler must decide what kind of man he will be once the war strips away every illusion he carried into battle. Inspired by remarkable true events, The Choices We Made is a gripping story of courage, conscience, and redemption in the last violent days of the Second World War.
